Valerie Brooks

Valerie Brooks was born in Newark New Jersey. Valerie grew up in Newark and Irvington, NJ and attended both public school systems. She obtained her GED and subsequently obtained an Associate’s Degree in Social Science. Valerie held various position of employment, but most recent, had been employed as a Housekeeper at Winchester Garden in Maplewood, NJ, for more than 10 years.

Valerie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and she adored her nieces and nephews. She was always giving and never selfish. Valerie was quiet but loved by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her parents Ernest Smith and Rosetta Smith (nee Brooks), son Na’eem Smith and nieces Mellia Smith and Nakaya Smith.

A devoted mother and lifelong partner, she leaves to her memories: her partner of 40 plus years Roland Pittman, her son Basheer Smith; her grandchildren Nakirah Brown and Sanai Smith; her siblings Sharlette Smith, Roderick Smith and Addrienne Smith; her nieces and nephews Nakiyah Smith, Steven Davis, Maya Smith, Amina Smith, Abdul Khalid Smith and Zuri Smith and a host of loving family and friends.

She will be greatly missed.
