Robert Johnson Obituary

Robert Johnson funeral will begin at 1:00 pm.

Mr. Robert “Bobby” Johnson gave up his spirit into eternal rest on Tuesday May 26th, 2020 in his home in Vauxhall, New Jersey. His Father, Willie Johnson and Mother, Dorothy Johnson, welcomed Robert into the world on December 5th, 1937 in Sylvania, Georgia.

Robert being the first born of seven children, from a young child, was a natural leader – advising and guiding his younger siblings. Because of his experience, his siblings sought him for wisdom. Robert always enjoyed cars, motorcycles, music, traveling and genuine quality time with family and friends.

In 1957, Robert graduated from Central High School in Sylvania, Georgia. Because of his strong work ethic, Robert then in 1962 decided to pursue work in New Jersey. He initially settled in Newark, New Jersey – and years later moved to Vauxhall, New Jersey, where he had no intentions of making the impacts he later did. Over time, Robert created an imprint in many hearts and lives that can never be erased. Robert exemplified the definition of a hardworking, noble man. He worked as a driver in the trucking industry for many years through Good Day Poultry, then Specialty Products and Insulation (SPI) in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

With strong labor principles and values running through his veins, Robert later retired to ensure the care of his loving wife, Theresa. While Robert devoted his time to earning his means, supporting and providing for Theresa and their children, he also dedicated himself to be a faithful member of the George E. Cannon Lodge #858, Elks Club - as a Chairman and an Inner guard. Because of his consistent efforts, he played a vital role in the Elks Club’s maintenance and stability. Most Saturday and Sunday mornings, while others enjoyed the luxury of sleeping in, Robert had already risen with the sun and spent his mornings cleaning and organizing the building from the night before. He was dedicated to every assignment he was ordained to do.

Robert won the hearts of many with his devoted, considerate, and yet out-spoken personality. He never hesitated to “tell it like it was”. He occasionally enjoyed a smooth cold beer, paired with good music and an ear to listen to one of his first-hand accounts. Robert was always filled with stories to tell. Robert never wasted a moment with his children or grandchildren – and they never wasted a moment with him. His transparent nature became a blessing to all the lives he influenced within his community. Because of this, Robert became a father to many who were father-less, both to the young and old. Today he’s a best friend to several, “Uncle Bobby” to many and “Papa” to most and many more. Robert not only showed love through words, but even more by action.

Robert’s life served a greater purpose that has impacted souls beyond our generation, because our children’s children will experience the piece of him that he has left in all of us. Let us rejoice for he is in eternal peace and rest.

Robert is proceeded in death by his parents, Willie and Dorothy Johnson; In-laws Richard and Estelle Johnson; Sisters in-law Gloria Ann Dunifer, Debra Johnson; Son Rendell Johnson and nephew Andrew Johnson.

Robert leaves to cherish his memories his wife Theresa Feaster; his children Robert Craig Johnson, Jason Johnson, Roberta Johnson, Alphonzo Feaster, Daryl Dunifer, Twanda Johnson, Michael Minter; four Daughter in-laws; his siblings Jessie Hudson, Gladys William, Delois Franpiski, Shirley Thompskson, Joel Johnson, Virgil Johnson; Sisters in-law Francine Johnson, Helen Johnson, Jackie Green; his faithful helpers Alphonzo Feaster Jr., Alliyah Feaster, Allisha Feaster; 14 other grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
