Mable Reuben Curry was born on March 28, 1927 in Silverstreet, South Carolina born to the late Daisy Boyd and Cullen Reuben.
Mable Curry was married to Rufus Curry for 57 years before his death and remained a widow until her passing.
She was a loving member of New Zion Baptist Church for 69 years.
She worked at Rahway Hospital as a manager of Central Supply.
She was a dedicated member of the Lady Esther Eastern Star.
Mable was one who cared. She cared about her husband, her children, her church, and anyone she came across. If she could help you, she would. She was the matriarch of the family, both of her own and the church.
Mable grew up in Jim Crow South Carolina but did not let that stop her. She left the South in her early 20’s and lived with her brother Cullen and Sister Millie while working and saving money until prior to marriage to Rufus. They worked hard together and eventually saved enough to move the family to Linden New Jersey and later to Iselin, New Jersey.
The things she loved the most was the annual family reunion gatherings where the whole family of Reuben and Boyd would gather each year for a weekend of love and history. At each gathering she would deliver the history of the family during the gala banquet in which all would look forward to.
Mable would like to be remembered as a strong woman, who loved her family, loved her church, and was willing to fight for what she believes.
Mable was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Rufus Curry, daughter Jackie Thompson, siblings Johnnie B. Reuben, Cullen Reuben, Leon Reuben, David Reuben, Willie Reuben, Eunice Reeder, Rosa Lee Smith, and Helen Parker.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving son Robert William Curry, grandchildren Renee Thompson, Morgan Milner Curry, siblings, Daniel Reuben, Millie Bouknight and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
“We all loved her, but God loved her best.”
