Jennie Scott Herbert was born to Edward Scott Sr. and Mabel Scott on July 21st 1940 in Elizabeth, NJ.
Jennie attended Theodore Roosevelt Middle School and graduated from Battin High School in 1957. At the age of 21, Jennie married her next-door neighbor Elisha Herbert Jr.
In 1970, Jennie and her husband, Elisha expanded their entrepreneurial efforts by opening Herb's Grocery Store; a grocer, sandwich shop and a walk up hot dog/hot food stands. Jennie is famously known for her hot chili served on Herb's hotdogs and her all around good cooking. Later Jennie became a supervisor at the Elizabeth Public Library; where she retired at the age of 62.
When you remember Jennie, remember her warmth and kind heart. Jennie was a model mother and an all-around good friend. She spent most of her time in New York with her brother Wilfred. Jennie loved being around her family and friends.
Jennie is preceded in death by both of her parents Edward Scott Sr. and Mabel Scott, her husband Elisha Herbert Jr, son Craig Herbert, Granddaughter Nakiyah Floyd Johnson, brothers Gordon Scott, Edward Scott and Kenneth Scott. Sisters Margaret Simpson and Evelyn Gilliam.
Jennie leaves to cherish her loving memories, four daughters Regina Simmons of Roselle, NJ, Sonia Hunter (Michael) of Linden, NJ, Kim Sakinah Johnson (William) of Chesilhurst, NJ, and Sirena Samuels (Mark) of Conyers, Georgia, four grandchildren Keith Simmons Jr., Andrew Bratcher III, Jenee Hunter and Malachi Hunter, one great-grandchild Jeremiah Hunter, two brothers Wilfred Scott Sr and Joseph Scott Sr, one sister Mary Witherspoon. Jennie is also survived by special friends Janice Shaw and Clara "Midge" Jenkins and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Jennie Scott was 80 years old and went home to be with the Lord, after a brief illness at JFK Hospital in Edison, NJ on August 28th 2020.
Jennie, will be missed dearly.
