James Sylvester Jones known as “Jimmy Jones” was born in Henderson, North Carolina to the late Robert Lee Jones and Eunice Catherine Jones on February 14, 1938. He was the fourth child of 12 children, coming out only minutes after his twin sister, Joann. He departed this earthly life on Thursday, May 27, 2021.
James married the love of his life, Johnie Mae Moses on March 1, 1959. God blessed them with 62 years together. When you saw James, you saw Johnie Mae. They were inseparable. This union brought them four children, Jerry, Michael, Sharon and Daryl.
James was a hardworking man. He worked two full time jobs as a truck driver with Barnett Express and also at Deca Plastics for 28 years. He later worked at Samar Distributors of Edison, New Jersey. Although he was quiet in nature, he had a great sense of humor and he loved telling jokes and making people laugh. He loved driving the long box trucks and would sometimes talk to you for hours about the day he had. He loved working and never would had retired had they not retired him. Just like, his late son, Jerry, he was truly a human GPS. He knew the roads, towns, and streets like he knew the back of his hand, especially New York City. He also loved to fix cars and you could find him at any time fixing one of his children, grandchildren, family member or a friend’s car. He taught his sons how to work on their own cars so they wouldn’t have to go to the shop for oil changes or to change their brakes. He loved working in his garden and had built his own irrigation system. Always wanting to share his vegetables with family and friends. His garage was his comfort zone, he would be in there fixing things and just chilling. He was a grill master. He loved to barbecue on his homemade grill. He also made his own ice cooler to hold his sodas, water, etc.
James was a very dedicated family man. He loved his wife and children unconditionally and would do anything for his children, grands, and family. If you were in trouble or needed a helping hand, he would say, “ok, I will be right there”. No matter what time of day or night, he was there. He loved going back and forth to North Carolina to visit with family.
James leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife, Johnie Mae Jones; his loving children, the late Jerry Jones (Dolores) of Edison, New Jersey, Michael Jones (Eunice) of Union, New Jersey; Sharon Fields (Alton) of Dover, Delaware, Daryl Jones (Wendy) of Pemberton, New Jersey, ten Grandchildren, twelve great Grandchildren; His siblings, Rosalee Young of Hampton, Georgia, Melvin Jones (Ida Mae) of Elizabeth, New Jersey and Marvin Jones, of Henderson, North Carolina and a host of extended grands, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends to cherish his memories.
