Garry Warren SR Obituary

Garry Lamont Warren was born on September 26, 1968 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to the late, great Henry and Evangelist Janie Warren. He attended Elizabeth Public Schools and moved on to become a dedicated, diligent employee of the Marriott Corporation for 34 ½ years up until his final passing.

In September of 1989, in Elizabeth, at the renowned 522 Adams Ave family home, Garry wed the love of his life, Monicka Warren, whom he affectionately referred to as "MoSki" or "Mo" for short. Throughout their unconditional love, they bore four children - his one and only son and namesake Garry Lamont Warren Jr., and three epitomes of daddy's girls - Ebony Shaunte Warren, Jadah "Yae" Warren, and his baby girl, Asada Zoe Warren.

You could always find Garry amongst family, with a Bluetooth speaker nearby, a hat pulled low to the eyebrows, and a brand new pair of socks on. He was a lifetime fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and, during football season, no matter whose team played - you would find Garry dripped in Eagles gear from head to toe. He was a private but loving man who was always good for a laugh and preferred to keep a song in his heart rather than a chip on his shoulder. To hear him even raise his voice was a rare instance.

In 1992, Garry decided that the beats constantly playing in his mind and the music surrounding his soul needed to be released and shared with the world so that others could experience the relief and satisfaction he felt through the harmonies. It was then that "DJ Beat Provider" - Beat for simplicity - had evolved via the everlasting, and since ever-growing 40 Dawgs Productions. Alongside his most beloved childhood friends and family, Beat and the rest of the 40 Dawgs family stayed booked and busy providing DJ services for everyone who wanted that good ole' get up on your feet and two step house music vibe at their next event. There was no way you can sit still through a DJ Beat set. He earned the title of "my favorite DJ" in so many hearts throughout the city and he carried it with humbleness and grace. Garry juggled working his fulltime job at the Marriot and his fulltime love of music with ease and without missing a beat. They say when you're doing what you love, it becomes second nature and DJ Beat was the essence of a man doing what he loved.

Aside from the ones and twos - as a loving father alongside his wife, Garry witnessed their family legacy continue to grow as they greeted with open arms 4 grandchildren to christen them as "PopPop" and "Nanny" forever. Jhazier Lamont Warren was the firstborn grandson to come in October 2007, followed by their only granddaughter Amani Hope Pettis in December 2011. Asaad Yasim Warren arrived in August 2015 and, their youngest grandson Ahmad Ali Bell joined the party in February of 2020.

On March 6, 2024, Garry said his final goodbye to his "Mo" and, surrounded by love and an abundance of prayers, he peacefully crossed over into eternal rest. He descended into heaven for a long awaited reunion with his parents, his brothers Arthur McClain, Reggie McClain, and Tony "Showtime" Warren, and his sisters Sharon McClain and Tameka "Mickey" Glover. He leaves on Earth to cherish the long-lasting memories of their brother, his remaining siblings - his twin brother Barry "Nokie" Warren (Charlotte), and sisters, Sarah Minter (Dexter), Thelma Curry, Stephanie Hall, and Lisa Brown (Willie. Garry leaves behind a multitude of nephews whom he managed to maintain a steady, loving and stable bond with daily just as if they were his own son.

An abundance of nieces will miss his hugs, his talks, and his feel good music. Cousins, extended family, neighbors, co-workers, and the entire city of Elizabeth will grieve the loss and forever cherish the memories of Garry "DJ Beat" Warren. With great musicians, you don't just hear them, you feel them. So when you hear one of his favorite songs that only he knew exactly when to drop the beat on, don't fret and don't cry... Dance.
