Elonzio Odums

May 12, 1959 ~ March 16, 2021 (age 61)

Obituary

Elonzio Odums Jr. affectionately known to everyone as Uncle Booster, “Unc”, or Booster was born to the late Elonzio Odums Sr. and Rushie Bell (Embry)Odums on May 12, 1959 and departed this earthly existence on March 16, 2021.

Born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ, Elonzio had the privilege to be educated through the public school system here, gaining long-time friends along the way, one being Ronald Cooper(later becoming the godfather to his son, Ronald A. McDougald). Booster continued his education and gained employment with Cycle Chem. There, he was a chemical handler until an on-the-job accident left him disabled.

“Unc”, was determined man, taking life head-on and no matter what the situation would be he was always there for you, whether it was lending his ear or hand. Even though he was going through his own trials and tribulations he would always make sure you were ok. His spirit was wholesome, and his heart was of pure gold filled with LOVE for everyone. No matter if you were family, friend, or foe, Uncle Booster welcomed you.

He enjoyed making people laugh and being the life of the party (a natural jokester). Making sure that his presents is known, with his soul-food laughter just gets deep down in your soul.

One of his favorite pastimes was riding his mechanical companion down to store to play his lottery, and belief it or not, this guy definitely had a winning streak, so if you’re in line behind him you better take your backside to another store or let's just say, if you don’t you will not be the winner for tonight because you will never play. Booster always had a ride, no need for insurance or license, just charge and go, with his great-great niece Chyah riding on his lap into the sunset. Another was spending time with his lady friend Yvonne Johnson and visiting his cousins Carlton (Linda) and LeRoy which he would travel by train to Trenton, NJ just to ruffle their feathers. Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Cora always knew, when their nephew was on the other end his concerns of their well-being and elder advice was always his main priority while in conversation with them both.

Booster was not only a son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend he had become a great uncle to nephews Shahid and Antione and nieces Brianna and Sharae, but before his untimely passing he became a great-great uncle, welcoming Shahid Jr., Chyah, and Nael(by the way, he lived to see three genertions).

Elonzio was predeceased by his parents Elonzio Odums Sr. and Rushie Bell (Embry) Odums and brother James Odums. He leaves to cherish his memories:  His sister Mrs. Sheryl (Odums)Cooper, nieces Ms. Yvette (Sharief)and Marcella Cooper, Great nephews Shahid Cooper and Antione Burton, Great nieces Brianna Perez and Sharae Dean, Great-great nephews Shahid Cooper Jr and Nael Perez and Great-great niece Chyah Cooper, all of Elizabeth NJ, Uncle James and Aunt Cora Odums of Jersey City NJ, cousins Carlton (Linda) and LeRoy Harris of Trenton NJ, cousin Geraldine Embry of Boston Massachusetts, long-time companion Yvonne Johnson of Linden NJ, Godson Ronald A. McDougald , and his  brother-from-another-mother(father) Malik Shell of Rahway, NJ. and a host of family and friends.
