Carroll Allen-Ellison Obituary

Carroll Joanne Allen-Ellison, also known as “Aunty, Miss Carroll or Grandma” by many, and those who were very close to her, she was known as “Redd”. She was born on December 24, 1943 to the late Andrew Allen Sr. and Helen (Burrell) Allen and departed this earth on November 3, 2023. Carroll was the 11th of 13 children.  Carroll was married to the late James “Duke” Ellison.

Carroll received her education from the Elizabeth school system. Carroll loved helping people and was employed as a nurse early in life and retired as a Home Health Aide at Community Access in Cranford, NJ.

Carroll always believed that being on time was the same as being late. She always arrives early to see where she can put her hands to work. Carroll had her own sense of style and had an outfit for every occasion, but her favorite outfit was laying around the house in her favorite house dress and slippers, binge watching episodes of LAW & ORDER and other law drama series. Carroll had a heart that was too big for her body so she shared it with everyone whom she loved. She loved checking in on her neighbors throughout the building in which she previously resided. Carroll was also known for her mouth, if she had something to say, you can best believe she was going to say it, and sometimes didn’t care how you felt about it. Carroll loved her children, grandchildren and family and would do anything for them if she could. Carroll’s most prized possessions were her two sons Raheem & Tyshan, who she bragged about to everyone she knew. She referred to them as HER KINGS.  She was known by most of her nieces and nephews as “the cool aunt” because she believed in just having fun and enjoying life. She was always the life of the party and her presence demanded attention whenever she walked into the room. Carroll was a strong woman who overcame many obstacles in life and would fight until there was no more fight.

Carroll was predeceased by her three sisters, Ruth Johnston,  Lula James and Blanche Allen-Salters and six brothers, Robert Gene, Theordore Sr., Andrew Jr., Bevly Sr., Frank Sr., and Joseph Sr.

Carroll leaves to cherish her memory, her two sons, Raheem Allen (East Orange, NJ), Tyshan Allen Sr. and his wife Carlotta, (Elizabeth, NJ), two brothers, Herman Allen Sr. of Delaware, Leland Allen Sr. of Elizabeth, NJ, two sisters Valerie Moore of N. Carolina, and  Brenda (Duddy) Rose of Elizabeth, NJ; five sister-in-laws, Lillian Allen, Linda Allen, Frankie Allen, Patricia Allen and Sharon Allen; four grandsons, Tyreese Allen, (Virginia), Tyshan Allen Jr. (NJ), Mar Qui Allen (Virginia) and Rickey I’yad Funderberk (NJ); five granddaughters, Yantalay Neal, Tamiah Holmes, Alexis Funderberk, Laila Williams and Latirah Belton; seven great-grandsons, Keyvante, Rahsim, Tristan, Zaryis, Taleek, Mar Qui Jr., and Tae’Vion; six great-granddaughters, ShyAsia, Madison, Jaslin, Kymbre, Ayana, Avayah and Journey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted friends and extended & blended family. Carroll was predeceased by her daughter Carla M. Allen and two granddaughters, Eiesha Allen-Alphonse and Attallah Allen.

Carroll will be forever missed by many and never forgotten. She has left behind many beautiful memories for us all to cherish.
