Laverne Marie Champion Lewis was born to Father Roy Lee Champion (departed) and Mother Dr. Essie Branch in Henderson NC on March 13, 1959.She departed this life on January 22,2021 in Rahway NJ

Laverne’s family relocated to NJ, where she spent her childhood, graduated from Abraham Clark High School in 1977. She started her family and married her husband Ronald in 1997.She worked for C&S Wholesale Grocers and Gateway 2 where everyone called Mom. At the time of her departure, she was a member of Alpha & Omega Pentecostal Church

Laverne was everyone’s Favorite Girl, a loving and devoted wife, daughter, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother and great grandmother and most of all, a devoted friend. She loved to make everyone laugh and always had a laugh that would light up any room. Everyone who crossed paths with her knew how outgoing she was, As well the life of any party. She was sweet, kind, and loving to all, she loved to dance and cook. She made sure she taught all her grand kids how to make her FAMOUS Peach Cobbler that every on loved.

Laverne leaves behind her Mother Dr. Essie Branch of Roselle NJ, one brother Gerald Champion of East Orange NJ, her husband Ronald Bysem Lewis of Elizabeth NJ, she has three children and two step sons. Rashon Champion of McDonough GA, Lakeisha Washington of Lawrenceville GA, Shakeera Alston of Linden NJ, Ronald Santiago and Raphael Santiago both from Elizabeth NJ. Laverne had fourteen grandchildren and one great grandson, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and many many love ones.
