Deacon Eugene H Smith

August 27, 1933 — June 1, 2021

On Monday June 1, 2021 Eugene Smith was called home to be with the Lord. Eugene was born on August 27, 1933 in South Hill Va. to the late Charlie and Bessie Smith. He moved to Washington DC in his late teens where he met and married his late Wife Catherine Smith where they later relocated to Newark NJ.

Eugene attended night school and received his high school diploma. He also attended the Bible Institute and received various certificates in Theology.

Eugene was a dedicated and hard worker at Ritters Sysco Foods for over 25 years until he retired on April 2nd 1999.

Eugene was a faithful member of Newark Miracle Temple Church in Newark NJ where he served as a Deacon, Choir member, and drove the church van to make sure members made it to church, Eugene also served on various committees when asked, he loved serving the Lord and his church family. Eugene was known for always singing his favorite songs “One day at a Time “and "We've come  this far by Faith" Eugene found joy in sponsoring yearly bus rides to Washington DC and Niagara Falls.

He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by three daughters; Cynthia Tucker (Jimmy) of Va, Kathy Lacey (Theodore) of NC and Mamie Smith (Lloyd) of NC and one daughter who proceeded him in death Shelly Brown; two Sons Rashawn and Daron Smith of Newark NJ; one surviving brother Stacey Smith (Joanne) of Annandale Va. two surviving sisters Gladys Hyman of Va. and Doris Douglas - Bell of MD, seven siblings who proceeded him in death Alvester Smith, Algey Smith, Elsey Rhone, Ruth Cane , Walter Smith, Mason Evans and Grace Rowe. Twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
