Bessie A Matthews

Bessie A. Matthews born on October 6, 1934 in Pamplin, Virginia, entered eternal rest on Tuesday November 24, 20020.  Bessie moved to Linden, New Jersey from Pamplin, Virginia at a young age. She later married Joseph Walter Matthews Sr. and they made their home together in Elizabeth, New Jersey. They were known to each other affectionally as the Old Man and the Old Lady Bessie was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Joseph W. Matthews, Sr., her mother Mrs. Lucille Hines-Ligon and her brother, Dee Henry Hines

Bessie was employed by Bowman Products Distribution services for more than 25 years. She retired from Bowman Productions in 1995.

She was affectionately known as Mrs. Bessie, Mom or Mrs. Matthews. Bessie loved spending time with family and friends.  She enjoyed traveling whether it was by cruise ship, airplane, or Leisure Line Bus Trips to Atlantic City, NJ. She enjoyed day trips with her daughter, Sharon and friends. She also loved to shop and dine out.  She and her girlfriends celebrated the end of a workweek by dining out on most Friday evenings.  Bessie was hooked on the daily soap operas.  She would tell everyone not to call while her soap operas were on and she always scheduled her time away from home around her soaps or recorded them.

Bessie leaves to mourn her loss, her son and first born, Joseph Walter Matthews Jr. (Michael). Two daughters Sharon Elaine Jackson (Sister), and Tywanna Lynn Lee (Wanna). Four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
