Archie Alston

May 29, 1930 — June 8, 2022

Archie Alston was born on May 29, 1930 to the late Major Alston and Minnie Louis in Warrenton, North Carolina. At an early age, Archie moved to Richmond, Virginia. When he became an adult, he moved to New Jersey. He was employed as a machine operator for the New York Bronze Company in Elizabeth, New Jersey until he retired.

Besides being hardworking, Archie was the most kindhearted and loving man. He loved to dress sharp, always was “dressed to impress”! He loved wearing the color blue, which was also his favorite color.

When he was able to travel, Archie loved going to the casinos and play the lottery. Archie loved listening to music and to dance, his favorite artist being James Brown. He also enjoyed spending time with Annie, taking road trips down south, bike riding, and eating his favorite foods. Some of his favorite foods included a variety of beans, fried fish, potato salad, and ham and cheese sandwiches.

While in his prime, he met and fell in love with the love of his life, Annie Graddy. Though they never had the chance to marry, they were dedicated to spending a lifetime together and building a legacy. More importantly, Archie was a man of faith. He loved attending church with his sister-in-law Dartha. He couldn’t always attend church but until the very end, he prayed often and always had his bible near.

Archie is predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Samuel Alston and Major Alston; his sisters, Christine Bowers, Elizabeth Davis, Betty Williams, Mildred Woodard, and Mary Christmas; and his longtime life partner Annie Graddy.

He leaves to cherish his sisters, Goldie Taylor of Brooklyn, NY and Geraldine Bullock (Louis) of Willingboro, NJ; his daughters, Roncheve Germain, Nicole Graddy, Margaret Graddy; his son Robert Graddy; his 9 grandchildren, Lashonda Smith, Cellis Williams, Shatara Johnson, Evens Mary, Patrice Germain, Zhaire Mary, Nykhia Pryor, Shantice Germain, and Patrick Germain Jr; his 5 great-grandchildren, Jhani Jean, Eyani Robinson, Chivon Robinson, Jayceon Padilla, and Serenity Padilla; and a host of other family and friends.
