Alvin Bynum

April 11, 1953 — August 4, 2022

Alvin Bynum didn't mind walking, in fact he preferred it. His journey began in North Hampton, North Carolina where he was born to Minnie Bynum & James Vassar on April 11, 1953. Alvin enjoyed his early years learning in school and spending time with his maternal grandfather helping him tally up his earnings from working the fields. Alvin's journey continued as he and his mother moved from North Carolina to Newark, NJ, which would be his home for the rest of his life. Alvin's spiritual walk began when he accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at Smyrna MBC as a child by the late Rev. Fulton Lamar in the mid 1960s. Alvin was educated in the Newark public school system starting from 4th grade. His walk would become a sprint as he became a standout on the track and basketball teams for Newark Technical High School. Alvin graduated in 1971. Alvin fathered his first of five children, April with her mother Hazel a day before his 19th birthday on April 10, 1972 This began his luck of having children during his birth month! On April 3, 1973 he welcomed his first son, Victor into the world born to his mother Veronica. Alvin walked out of Essex County College Business Division earning an Associates degree in Accounting that same year. In 1976, Alvin was introduced to his friend, wife and life partner, Sandra Lambert by his brother Dwight. This sparked a 46-year love that produced 3 children. Their first son Amir was born April 14, 1981. Alvin's April children streak would run out with their second son Al Sherrod born June 1985. Alvin & Nita would be married that same year on September 7th. A year later they would welcome the last of their children Alvin Deshawn in September of 1986. He was employed by the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier and Clerk, Gannett Fleming as a Transporter and H. R. Lambert Contractors. Alvin was also known around the area as a skilled electrician, plumber and carpenter. His walk with Christ remained important to him as he became a member of Chirstian Union Center where his mother-in-law Pastor Thelda L. Lambert was the pastor. In his latter years, he was pastored by his namesake, Pastor Alvin D. Bynum at Harvest International Ministries. Alvin was a "people's person". He never hesitated to give a lending ear, sound advice and a good joke to those he encountered along his path. On August 4, 2022, Alvin walked out of this life and into eternal rest in the arms of God

He was preceded by his father and his brother Dwight Witherspoon.

Alvin leaves to cherish his memory his mother Minnie Witherspoon-Harris, his wife of 37 years Sandra S. Lambert-Bynum, his children April Brooks (Darnell), Victor "Reek" Richardson, Amir Bynum, Al Sherrod Lambert (Ariana), Apostle Alvin D. Bynum (Brandi), 8 grandchildren , Jeffrey, Ghalib, CJ, Kobe, Emanuel, Saraiah, Alani & Amica & 2 great-grandchildren. His siblings, Bryan, David, Sheila, Sharon, Nina, Andreanette, Ernest and a host of other family and friends. ____________________________________________________
